When worn as an amulet, rubies were believed to help protect warriors in battle. Remember Dorothy’s ruby slippers in ‘The Wizard of Oz’? It wasn’t a mistake that those little beauties were made from rubies. They were thought to protect her from evil.In 2011, a 8.24 carat ruby ring belonging to Elizabeth Taylor sold at auction for $4.2 million, which amounts to $500,000 per carat!
