Cameo: Othelo + Yenna
MARCH 10, 2024

Welcome to 'Cameos' a series featuring a lovely cast of characters from around the globe and across creative disciplines. We’ll try to keep it curious, with questions that range from cheeky to inspiring. Since it's a Cameo, we’ll always ask our subjects to share something that is precious to them. As a jewelry designer, I think of all things as vessels for meaning. But true to life, precious does not always mean fancy. It's all in the energy and the story.

Meet Othelo + Yenna!
These two love birds, or as I fondly refer to them, salt-n-pepper shakers, Othelo + Yenna are one of those cosmic, match-made-in-heaven kind of couples… like you can’t imagine them NOT being together. Of course, they are both amazing as individuals (you can see his painting in all my IGTVs) but they have a special love story, amazing pet names for each other, and a bunch of late night, home-baked tattoos that tie into the idea of indelible and eternal in just the way I like (as a tattooed lady who loves love). I’m over the moon to share their beautiful Cameo. Enjoy!

WHICH HAS THE BEST STORY?OG: In my inner arm/inside elbow (often called ‘The Ditch’ in tattoo world), I have a collection of scrawled hearts from some of my nearest and dearest. All from late, hazy nights back when I had the keys to a tattoo shop I used to work at. The visual I think can be compared to the inside cover of a grade school yearbook.YC: Snake / Dagger – I did my first tattoo with a machine on Othelo’s thigh. It was supposed to look like a snake but Othelo claims it looks like a gummy worm. I wanted a dagger and halfway through he said “OOPS… don’t worry – I am going to just make it look like a bloody dagger.” Neither of the tattoos went quite as planned, but they will always be hilarious memories from early on in our relationship.

I call him hunny, which is pretty boring – nothing that I call him to others. I will say the funny thing is that I call him that so much I sometimes call other people hunny by mistake and it’s very awkward.

“Two days before he proposed, he wrote what is engraved on a card to me. 4 Eva into Eternity”

I ASK ALL MY FRIENDS TO SHARE SOMETHING THAT IS PRECIOUS TO THEM. WHAT’S THE OBJECT? HOW DID THIS COME TO BE PRECIOUS TO YOU? WHAT DID YOU BRING TO THE PARTY TODAY, AND WHAT’S THE STORY? HOW DID THIS COME TO BE PRECIOUS TO YOU?OG + YC: Yenna’s brother played original music on guitar at the beginning of our wedding ceremony. Unknown to us, he recorded his set on a cassette tape. He then later gave us the tape as a gift. This now is a live audio memory of the first minutes of our wedding that will always remain the most magical and exciting moments of the whole night.
A precious aspect of our wedding rings is the engraving on the inside of Othelo’s band – on our 7th anniversary, and two days before he proposed, he wrote what is engraved on a card to me – 4 Eva into Eternity – which is very him – funny and sweet. I wanted to bring that loving statement and special memory into the band.
Before we go, a quick Ad Libs with our Cameo guest!
‘If I could teleport myself, I’d go to OG: Iceland YC: A serene beach.
