August’s BirthstoneSpinel
AUGUST 12, 2021
A curated jewelry edit for the August babe
Ready for a phenomenal event to begin?🔮 That’s right August babes, it’s your time to shine. In celebration of your birth month, we did a little digging (literally) to learn more about the toughest gemstone that is your birthstone, Spinel.Spinels can come in every color of the rainbow. From the reddest of reds to the most vibrant blues, spinels can match your every outfit or mood. On a deeper level, the colors come from the elements found in the gems. For example, red spinels come from trace amounts of chromium, where blue spinels come from trace amounts of iron or cobalt. Spinels are also known as one of the toughest gemstones. It is not made in a crystalized structure like other gems, so that makes it very rare for a spinel to crack or splinter. Many rulers in the Middle ages, specifically in Asia and Europe, wore spinels. A tradition was to have their name and title engraved on the stones. And from what we learned above, this is the perfect gem to engrave on!💪 To finish off this spinel description, we turn to a little gemstone terminology. “Phenomenal gem” is a term used to describe a gem that has a special light optical reaction. In some cases, the spinel’s rutile reflections (which look like needles in the stone) will connect to form a star-like shape. This is where the “phenomenal” aspect comes in!From engagement rings to new necklaces we’ve curated a jewelry edit that encompasses the power of these small, natural wonders.
